Beyond Anthems and Flags, The Rio Olympics celebrating our shared humanity

Refugee Olympic team Rio 2016

Yusra Mardini swam with her sister 3 hours to save her life and guide a sinking boat pushing it to safe shore saving twenty lives. After reaching the greek shores, Yusra arrived to Germany where she continued her training and was selected to join the refugee Olympic team where she just won her first Olympic heat, the 100 meters Butterfly series.

If the Olympics spirit is about anything, it should be about true valor and celebrating our shared humanity through sport. You can be an athlete and a hero beyond a flag and an anthem. The first-ever Refugee Olympic team marched under the Olympic flag and represents the 21 million refugees around the world. A signal of hope in a time of struggle. Time to inspire again.
